“Each year, an estimated 4.2 million youth and young adults experience homelessness, of which 700,000 are unaccompanied minors, meaning they are not part of a family or accompanied by a parent or guardian. On any given night, approximately 41,000 unaccompanied youth ages 13-25 experience homelessness.”

Our Founding Story

In 2019, Founder Ryan Jaskot, who is Co-Chair of the Young Professionals Board of Covenant House Atlanta (a youth homeless shelter for ages 18-24) was mentoring multiple youth when he realized most of these youth had a nine-to-five job to collect a paycheck, but it was strictly transactional. These youth all had passions and desires to grow, but no one to coach and encourage them on how to take real steps to achieve them. They needed a community who was willing to genuinely invest in them and their future. A community who cares. That’s where Pour Over Love’s comes in.

What causes a youth to become “at-risk”?

Lack of a stable financial situation or unstable family dynamics such as broken homes or absent parental figures can create instability and cause development issues for youth.

In Atlanta, around 250 at-risk youth age out of foster care annually

  • 40% Experience Homelessness

  • 50% Develop Substance Abuse Issues

  • 35% Become Incarcerated Within the First 2 Years

Community is the #1 thing people desire most, but research shows that it’s what people have least.

Having a sense of community unites us. Being a part of a community can make us feel as though we are a part of something greater than ourselves.

It can give us opportunities to connect with people, to reach for our goals, and makes us feel safe and secure.
